Joseph Torre, better known by his stage name MitiS, is an American electronic music producer, DJ, and musician from Media, Pennsylvania, a small town located about 12 miles west of Philadelphia.

Musical Journey and Transition to EDM

MitiS began his musical path as a classically trained pianist, performing in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in Manhattan and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Despite Pennsylvania being primarily known for its indie-alternative scene, with electronic dance music (EDM) less prominent, MitiS helped shift this perception.

In 2011, at age 20, Joseph Torre’s perspective changed after attending the Starscape music festival in Baltimore, where he “fell in love with the scene and community.” Inspired, he pivoted from classical music to creating his own EDM tracks. His first commercial release was a remix of “Memories” by Metzo & Titanoz on Beatport.

Career and Musical Style

MitiS quickly rose in popularity through a series of successful EPs, singles, and remixes, each building on the previous success. His goal has been to show that electronic music isn’t always about heavy drops or party vibes but about how music makes you feel and think.

A pivotal moment was the release of his EP “Born”, dedicated to the birth of his son. Written in one night and released as a free download, the EP unexpectedly garnered acclaim, encouraging MitiS to focus on more melodic compositions rather than just drops and growls.

His sound evolved from melodic dubstep roots toward progressive trance with the EP “Living Color”, aiming to showcase the range of styles he enjoys and to diversify his live performances. MitiS now blends classical sophistication with the dynamic energy of modern bass music, calling this his “new era of classical.” His productions span from dubstep to electro, with many unfinished tracks exploring genres from deep house to melodic dubstep.

His creative process often starts with piano improvisation at home, discovering melodies that become synth parts, followed by synthesis and processing. Inspiration comes from “everything and nothing,” including festivals and shows that still evoke childhood excitement.

Born Records aims to discover artists personally, understand their music, and provide strong support for their releases.

Joseph Torre is married and a father. Parenthood has been “a wonderful, devoted, and incredibly inspiring” experience for him, making him realize his life is no longer about himself but about someone who needs love and care. This perspective helped him focus on simple things that make a person happy rather than worries. Outside music and family, MitiS enjoys working on his car—a relaxing hobby—and often takes walks in the forest.

Final Thoughts

One of the best pieces of advice MitiS received from his father is: “The less you worry about money, the more you enjoy life, and the more money will come, even without you realizing it.” He also has a side project called Ruins.
