Today is a truly bright day, as I am one of the first to touch the release I have been eagerly anticipating. This is a new work by three masters whose music invariably paints my grey weekdays in vivid colors. I am talking about a collaborative creation by Resonant Circuits, Vybeshift, and Stræpa — a composition titled “Ascending”.
The canvas unfolds with the soft gestures of Vybeshift (Roni Yohanan). Her touches on the handpan are like heavy velvet curtains being drawn aside, inviting the listener into a special space where peace reigns. And just as you settle into this vibe, a magical flute part enters the stage. Stræpa (Tim Paters) is responsible for these delicate wind laceworks. When these instruments merge into a single beat, a wonderful contrast arises: short, crystalline strikes of the handpan meet the lingering, morning mist-like voice of the flute. This synergy instantly creates the feeling of a living fairy tale.
But where in this ensemble is Resonant Circuits (Jannik Jivung)? — you might ask. His mastery is dissolved in the details — in the architecture of drums and percussion. In tiny infusions that might not be caught by the untrained ear, yet they are exactly what holds the entire structure together. Listen closely — and somewhere around the thirty-second mark, you will hear fragile guitar chords, and in the second part of the track — gentle scatters of piano. Jannik’s art lies in subtly complementing the main characters, building a rhythmic foundation so as not to muffle a single breath.
It is hard for me to call this just a collaboration. It is rather a true trio that seems to have been playing together for an eternity, ignoring any distances. Their creative unity inspires hope that a shared dream always unites only the best around it. And such dreams will be invisible stairs for us, where every note will help us rise above the mundane, growing together with the music until we dissolve into the very sky.
