When I first saw Tony Frissore’s press release “Island Lantern Festival” about Lunar New Year, I was expecting something typically festive: you know, the pomp, the red dragons, and the noise of firecrackers. But once I hit play, I realized Tony took a completely different path. Instead of festive clamor, I heard that magical silence that settles in when the crowds disperse, leaving only paper lanterns in the sky.

I was honestly floored by how cool he wove the reggae in here. It’s not the sunny “Jah Rastafari” we’re used to, but a very delicate, almost ghostly sway under a lo-fi sauce. This rhythm gives the track life, but it does so with such care that the composition never loses its weightlessness. The flute, though barely perceptible, sounds like a character in its own right—it’s transparent, reminding me of a breath of warm air lifting a lantern upward.

I can truly feel Tony’s entire background in this track. His jazz roots from New Orleans and Boston peek through every beat. I find myself thinking that “Island Lantern Festival” is the perfect portal to an “everything is going to be okay” state of mind. This exact vibe—calm and genuine—is what I need right now to start my own new cycle. Even if you don’t follow the lunar calendar, this track will make you believe, for at least three minutes, that the light within is what truly matters.

P.S. If this track helped you find your inner peace, be sure to check out another of Tony’s works we’ve previously covered — Self Soothe by Tony Frissore: Lo-Fi in Cold Electronica.
