I often find myself staring at a single point while listening to music, completely lost in the texture of the sound. It turns out there’s a term for this in Japanese culture: zazen, or seated meditation. While listening to the latest release by Italian producer Simber (Simone Bertolini) titled “Feelin,” I found myself frozen in place, utterly captivated by the atmosphere.

The Soundscape

The track builds up effortlessly, emerging from the depths through a cutoff filter that gradually reveals mid and high frequencies, slowly coloring the silence. Within this haze, a faint echo of a bright trumpet dissolves into the viscous notes of a piano. If it weren’t for the steady hip-hop rhythm and the “creamy” bassline, I’d bet this was authentic 1950s jazz.

As the track progresses, the brass section grows richer—to my ear, a cornet joins the trumpet. In the heart of the piece, the instruments call out to one another, creating a slightly dramatic yet cozy mood. It feels like an evening in a jazz club with panoramic windows overlooking the Italian Alps. Based in Palermo, Simone draws on his skills as a sound designer to blend lo-fi, funk, and neo-soul into something that feels deeply intuitive.

Why Listen?

“Feelin” is worth a listen if only to experience how quickly music can transport you to any warm place you can imagine. It’s the perfect companion for those quiet moments when you just want to “hang in space” and practice your own version of meditation. Have a peaceful day!
