Tuesday, twelve o’clock. It’s lunch break time, and what could be better than a cup of coffee and a relaxing jazz-hop track? At this moment, probably nothing. That’s why I want to suggest a fresh release from Madrid-based producer Leafar Zeral and Venezuelan saxophonist Rodolfo Sax, released on Patiotic Records. The track, “A Cup of Shorter,” like a musical chocolate bar, it pairs perfectly with your coffee to stretch that pleasure for a few minutes.
Sound Architecture
Hidden within this “musical confection” are three delicious ingredients: keys, guitar, and saxophone. The keys taste like salted caramel: a blend of live and electric piano (Rhodes) that gives the track a hint of light drama. The guitar is like scattered nuts in the filling its role is to fill the track with coziness and make the sound “heartier” and warmer. The third ingredient is the saxophone by Rodolfo Martínez—like a smooth, sweet nougat, it fills the track with richness and creates incredible volume.
This entire filling is coated in “milk chocolate”—a saturated, soft bass and unhurried beats scattered across the track, creating a rhythm akin to a calm heartbeat.
Why Listen?
In the era of AI-generated music, these instruments—pure as a child’s soul—create a warmth you can physically feel. The brilliance of “A Cup of Shorter” lies not just in the fact that it’s a live recording, but in the impeccable clarity of performance and the mastery of the mix. Despite all parts being recorded live, the mastering is so filigree that it creates the illusion of the artists playing right in front of you, in your room. This is truly a “premium” sound with zero samples. Just press your hands (or ears) against this hot cup of coffee; it’s the perfect way to spend your daily break.
P.S. If you appreciate the crunchy and vintage sound of live instruments, be sure to check out our previous review.
