Sometimes, during long winter frosts, we involuntarily lose the memory of true warmth. The cold becomes something habitual, and you almost stop believing that this white infinity will ever give way to greenery. I myself got so caught up in this winter hibernation that I nearly missed an important event — a release that has become a personal manifesto of spring for me.

The track “Winter and Spring” is the first collaboration between denada. and Resonant Circuits. Curiously, while listening, that feeling of a “first-time” pairing doesn’t arise at all.

From the very first seconds, I hear a distinct call for winter’s end. In the background, a faint ticking of a clock counts down the final moments of cold, preparing me for a warm musical journey. The main protagonists take the stage: denada.’s gentle piano paints a soft, cloudless sky, while the sunny ukulele chords from Resonant Circuits shimmer in its azure. This start alone is enough to warm the gloomiest day. The music seems to sprout through the quiet field recordings of a winter atmosphere, like the first blades of grass through melting snow.

Gradually, the piano grows bolder, and the light bells of the kalimba scatter through the air like snowdrop buds. The rhythm, resembling a calm heartbeat, breathes life into the entire sound, while deep bass lines add a sense of confidence.

Jannik (Resonant Circuits) revealed the secret behind this harmony to me. It turns out that this time, the role of sound architect was taken on by Jonathan (denada.):

Jonathan gave me the chords, and I recorded three arps and three ukulele solos, as well as two kalimba melodies. I also recorded field recordings of winter and the sounds of my walking in the snow. He did everything else. So nice not having to do all those things!

For myself, I’ve concluded that “Winter and Spring” is a sonic replica of the last weeks of February. It is a path from numbness to movement. Every note here helps one break through a cold world filled with chaos, allowing the heart to feel the rhythm of life once again—precisely when it seems that everything around has frozen forever.
