You know this feeling, when you press “play” just out of curiosity, and after a few seconds you’re already sitting with a half-smile, not able to blink or turn it off? That’s how it starts, the meeting with Exit — the new track by Benny Bronco, the first breath of his upcoming album “Winter In Aourir“. From the first notes you understand — there is something here.

It all begins with piano, warm, a bit sad, but something very human. Like that childlike joy when you jump into a pile of yellow leaves. Then comes light percussion, a bit of synths, and it all grows so smoothly that you don’t even notice when you start nodding to the rhythm. And when the guitar comes in it adds some kind of cinematic feeling, a bit like in those old western movies. Then you hear the saxophone — rough, warm and it softens the drums, makes everything more smooth.

By the end the track gets a clear hip-hop sound, but not the standard one, the kind where everything is mixed: jazz, boom-bap, chillhop, scratches and it all sounds so organic that you can’t even say exactly what genre it is. Maybe that’s why it works. There’s a feeling of movement here, but without rush.

I think the main strength of Exit is that it’s warm. Not sweet, not boring, but the kind that gives you a sense of calm. This is music you want to have when you do your own thing, doesn’t matter what: working, sitting in the bus, or just looking at lights from the window.

Benny said he wrote this track after a trip to Morocco, when for the first time in a long while he escaped from his usual circle. And you can really feel that. Exit — it’s not just an “exit” in the title, it’s like a call to turn a bit out of your routine. Even half a step.

Because sometimes, to change something, you just need to go out. And not come back right away.
