Finally, the new release from Yal!X is here. I’ve been following this talented future garage artist for a long time, and for me, every track of his is a separate story that I want to revisit over and over again. Today, I invite you to dive into his latest work with me — “Dream Tides.”
From the very first seconds, the composition gives you no chance to stay on the surface. The melancholic sound of the piano acts as that specific trigger, instantly shifting your focus and preparing you for deep concentration and self-reflection, inviting you into your own inner space. Accompanied by a gentle vocal sample, Yal!X softly yet confidently pushes us into the embrace of a true bass gem.
I’d also like to highlight the contrast: those thin piano notes against the backdrop of massive, “fat” beats sound remarkably fragile. They remind me of the state of peace in our modern world — just as delicate, barely perceptible, yet incredibly precious. And it is this very thinness that becomes the blade cutting through the web of absolute darkness, turning melancholy into something bright and adding a drop of hope to every note.
As we cross the center of the composition, the space around us begins to shift. Light pads appear, and the piano seems to recalibrate its mood, opening the door to a world of even greater melodiousness. The author boldly adds a layer of short arpeggios between the main notes, creating a sense of movement. At this moment, you start to sense that the finale won’t be quiet, it’s preparing us for true drama.
And the expectations are met. The structure of the work transforms: only sharp snares remain in the percussion, and the rhythmic pattern of the beat begins to lean toward dubstep. But even here, Yal!X remains true to his depth. A lingering synthesizer, whose timbre so closely resembles the wail of an electric guitar, combined with those same thin keys, leads us to a true triumph of sound. It is the final act of a drama, closing with the incredible play of the piano we’ve come to know.
I don’t know about you, but to me, “Dream Tides” feels like the musical embodiment of a tide on the ocean shore. An ocean that can never freeze because it is constantly moving in the dance of this effortless melody. This is music that settles in the heart much deeper than any water.
