Winter is finally retreating. The sunbeams are growing warmer, and the air is filled with that unmistakable anticipation of spring. Along with nature’s awakening comes romance, making the latest release by Jonny Wolf and Nathan Kersey-Wilson, titled “Wishing You Love,” incredibly timely.

This is an exquisitely refined chillhop composition based on a “cocktail” of two of the most romantic genres: bossa nova and jazz. Bossa nova sets the rhythmic foundation here through soft percussion and delicate piano flourishes. To me, this sound feels like the first bouquet of flowers—a cornerstone for a growing relationship. Meanwhile, Nathan’s jazz saxophone builds that cozy atmosphere we’re used to seeing in classic Hollywood melodramas. Nathan is an experienced multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles, and his philosophy of “serving the music” shines through here: the saxophone sounds incredibly delicate, never overpowering the overall mood.

It’s also worth mentioning the recurring synth pattern that accompanies us throughout the track. While it might seem slightly monotonous, it actually acts as a pulse or a beacon. When more complex instruments join in, the brain focuses on them, but this synth maintains the structure, keeping the composition from drifting apart.

What truly sets “Wishing You Love” apart from countless other lo-fi releases is its incredible balance. There is no dominance of one genre over the other. Thanks to Jonny Wolf’s technical background as a professional sound engineer, the track sounds cohesive and strong—much like the true love the artists wish upon us. It’s an upbeat work with a tropical flair, perfect for shaking off the winter slumber.

Love and be loved, for spring is just around the corner.
