You know that feeling when it’s well past midnight, the city has gone quiet, but there’s still that lingering electric hum from an energy drink inside you? That’s exactly when “Digital,” the fresh release from Luga & Klim, comes into play. This is a soundtrack for those who choose to stay awake, wandering empty streets while your AirPods slowly collect the nighttime frost.

Luga (the project of Brighton-based Lewis Broad-Ashman) and Polish producer Klim have delivered a work that masterfully balances on the edge of calm and kinetic energy. At its core are drums that won’t let you settle down. It’s pure chillstep, possessing that rapid, almost “nervous” pulse typical of UK Garage, but seasoned with the melancholic apathy of Future Garage. It’s the kind of mood where you’re walking at a steady pace, yet the dance energy is still pulsating within you.

What struck me most is how they built the soundscape. The deep sub-bass serves as a dark canvas of the night sky, upon which the percussion scatters like digital, pixelated stars—or distant lights against the geometry of night skyscrapers. Everything is rich and rhythmic, and the vocal samples add a ghostly, human presence that’s rarely found in pure chillstep.

To me, “Digital” is a must-have for an introspective walk home after the club. The track holds this amazing contrast: on one hand, it pushes you to move faster, on the other, it pulls you into a state of melancholic reflection on your way to bed. If you need to release that energy without making a scene, this release from Luga & Klim is exactly what you need.

P.S. If you’re into this melancholic nighttime energy, be sure to check out another compelling release we’ve covered — SaintBySix — Left Unsaid: The Introspective Vibe of SaintBySix.
