Today I have a special format. I had the chance to speak with Modello Zero about his latest release and uncover the story behind this enigmatic project. We’re looking at the track “Stellar — Speed Up,” released in early March 2026. It’s a chapter in a grand lore where music serves as a chronicle of a self-aware machine’s journey.
Behind the Scenes: A Mini-Interview with Modello Zero
To better understand the atmosphere of “Stellar,” I asked the artist about his creative journey and the concept behind the project.
Tell us a bit about yourself as an artist: How did the “Modello Zero” project come to be, and what lies behind this persona?
I’m a child of the early ’90s, raised on ’80s cinema. That aesthetic has stayed with me and my music today. Even though I’m working on several projects, ‘Modello Zero’ is the one I’m focusing on, precisely to create absolute coherence between sounds and imagery. It’s a true alter ego: a character who lives within the songs and whose adventures listeners can follow.
Modello Zero is a prototype, a ‘demo’ version of a machine that, unexpectedly, has become self-aware. Unlike ‘Terminator’-style narratives, it’s not a weapon seeking revenge; its purpose is to discover and convey beauty in its myriad nuances.
Sound Architecture: A Cosmic Flight
“Stellar — Speed Up” is pure Chillwave. The synthesized pads resonate with the cosmic journeys we read about in 80s and 90s comics. The artist skillfully combined several variations of arpeggios without any conflict, creating a sense of movement through interstellar space.
The drums, with their muffled frequencies and “dusty” sound, are familiar to any chillwave enthusiast, but here they are indispensable. They provide a sense of warmth to the soft synths. The track perfectly fits into current trends like those popularized by Lofi Girl’s shift toward chillwave, but “Stellar” stands out due to its distinct idea and lore.
What does this track mean to you, and what idea did you aim to convey through it?
This track in particular is a cosmic flight, a space journey that also functions as a profound introspective exploration for those who listen, but also for the machine itself.
Why Listen?
Modello Zero, hailing from the picturesque town of Magliaso, Switzerland, demonstrates a polished level of production. Crystalline synth arpeggios combined with a pulsing yet unobtrusive rhythm create an immersive sonic experience.
Unlike many faceless lo-fi projects, here we see a clear concept of a “Lone Rider” in the vastness of space. This is music of technological introspection that invites you to get lost in the void without fear.
What can we expect from “Modello Zero” in the future?
In the future, there will undoubtedly be faster and more aggressive tracks to accompany the obstacles on its path, but Modello Zero’s soul will always remain that of an explorer… a Lone Rider.
This release is a perfect example of how retro-futurism can be both stylish and meaningful. “Stellar” is your ticket to a flight into the unknown, where instead of cold metal, you are met with warm nostalgia for the future.
P.S This isn’t our first encounter with the work of this Swiss master. Be sure to check out our previous review to experience the full spectrum of the project’s sound
