As I wait for at least some sign of real warmth, I have no choice but to seek refuge in the sound waves of jazz-hop. Today, my ears are being “warmed” by a track called “Through the Blue.” It is the result of a collaboration between two talented artists — Simber and awaikaze — who seem to have decided to make this world just a little more livable through their music. So, brew some tea, and let’s dive in.
The opening moments greet you with the warm, jazzy hues of a muted saxophone and delicate piano notes. They float like weightless clouds across an endless azure sky. Simber, a producer from Palermo who has spent years honing his craft at House of Loop, clearly knows how to build a proper sense of depth. As the soft beat subtly wraps around you, you immediately notice the bass. It is incredible. The secret lies in the fact that India-based awaikaze has dedicated the last ten years to the bass guitar, and that expertise is felt in every single vibration. The bass is so well-placed and physical that it becomes tactile — as if you are actually squeezing warm, sun-drenched soil in your palms.
Gradually, the piano landscape shifts like the patterns of cirrus clouds. The notes take on a slight warp, a gentle distortion that makes the atmosphere feel even cozier. Then, around the 1:15 mark, the track takes a deep breath. All the instruments slowly fade for a moment, suspended in the air, allowing the listener to breathe in unison with them. It is a very subtle, thoughtful touch that forces you to pause for a second and just be.
Listening leaves you with an aftertaste of warm memories. I think most of us, at least once in our childhood, spent hours lying on the grass, watching the clouds drift by and dreaming of something magical or making grand plans for the future. “Through the Blue” acts as a ticket back to that very moment. Simber and awaikaze allow us to revisit those childhood thoughts, but from a different angle — one that is calmer and more mature.
Ultimately, “Through the Blue” sounds like a reminder that even in the darkest times, a patch of clear blue sky remains within each of us. Perhaps we should look up more often to remember: we aren’t just the sum of our worries, but also those bright dreams we once promised ourselves never to forget.
