I’m happy to introduce a track that is the result of a true international collaboration: kBeats (UK producer with 30M+ streams), oxinym (guitarist and popular playlist curator), and Malosax (renowned French live saxophonist). The track is titled “What a Day,” and the sound completely justifies the name.
Sound Architecture
The track gets straight to the point without any long intros, which feels like the right move for a two-minute piece. kBeats handled the drum rhythms and overall production. His experience shows: the drums are tucked slightly back to stay out of the saxophone’s way while still providing a rock-solid pulse. The collaboration feels so seamless it’s as if one person produced it.
The deep bass is the work of oxinym, but keep an ear out for the subtle guitar layers. They might seem invisible at first, but they are crucial for filling out the arrangement, dancing alongside the saxophone to make the sound richer and more colorful.
The soul of the piece is the live saxophone by Malosax, a familiar name in the lo-fi scene. His playing adds a layer of genuine human warmth. There’s a specific moment at 1:28 where his technical handling of the instrument creates a melody reminiscent of the “Flight of the Bumblebee” motif.
Why Listen?
The combined effort of these three artists has created something universally relatable. It perfectly captures that feeling when a long, hard day is finally over and the weekend is ahead. That sense of carefree release—that “finally” exhale—is present in every note.
Even knowing Monday is around the corner, “What a Day” leaves you with a lasting sense of relaxation. Through The Trees Records has found a track that could easily become a lo-fi classic. It taps into a feeling we all want to experience again and again.
